Journey into yoga
IF YOU CAN BREATHE, YOU CAN PRACTICE YOGA
Not too long ago, I found myself immersed in a yoga teacher training program surrounded by an impressive group of 23
yogi’s. It was an amazing experience, one that I will never forget. There was plenty of laughter, a few tears, and
some grunts (mostly from me haha) as I struggle with some of the poses that were part of our curriculum.
Throughout these 3 months of learning and training, I discovered one astonishing truth as a new yoga student, a
clinician, and a fitness enthusiast. What I came to realize was this? If one can Breathe, one can Practice Yoga.
In my opinion (based on personal experience) One of the most important concept a student must master in Yoga is the
awareness of his/her own breath. Forget about Belly breathing, diaphragmatic breathing, ujjai breathing, Nadi
Sodhana or any other Pranayama techniques for a moment. Rather, spend the next 2 or 3 minutes to discover the rhythm
of your breath. Is it deep or shallow? do you use axillary muscles such as your shoulders or neck muscles? is the
inhalation longer/shorter than exhalation? or better yet, Can you even draw a FULL BREATH?
so, for the rest of the week well into the week-end, I invite you to journey within yourself and discover the rhythm
of YOUR BEAUTIFUL AMAZINGLY POWERFUL WONDERFUL BREATH
